A good book...

"...BUT HISTORY
WILL CALL US WIVES."

CAN'T ACTUALLY
REMEMBER A QUOTE,
WHICH MEANS IT'S
TIME FOR A RE-READ.

"TLEILAXU EYES WERE
NOT IMMUNE TO
TEARS"

...Is one that you can bring into the jamban and read at least half of it perched on your porcelain god of choice, nevermind that your 'official business' ended 3 hours ago; nevermind that you get pins and needles in your legs after the first half hour you spend 'perching'; and nevermind that people have been banging on the door for the past 2 hours and 45 minutes wondering if you've passed out from your own noxious fumes.

A truly spectacular book is one that makes you do the same as above, except that the only toilet you own is a squat toilet. Now that's dedication!

Today's post is both mindless and mildly disgusting.

THE PENULTIMATE
IN COOLNESS

10 YEARS OLD THIS
JUNE! HB DARLING.

ACHINGLY SAD, BUT I
STILL LIKE IT. DON'T
SAY OUT LOUD WHAT
YOU'RE THINKING,
THANKS.

Scribbles...
Jamban: toilet in Malay.
'official business': given that jamban = toilet, 'official business' = ?? You do the math.

My resolution is 800x600 (yes I'm blind, I like my font huge). If the post looks weird to you I'm sorry but I don't know enough HTML to fix it.

This confirms what I have always suspected: People love reading with their pants down. :)

Saffron, nice books :)

I have a weird question, did I chat with you around 10 p.m. today? Because I'm utterly confused.

let me just add to your 'mildly disgusting' nature of ur post: y'know i've tried reading in the toilet but, i realised i couldn't stay in there for too long (esp after finishing the official business long ago). It's rather........... uncomfy, no? Ewww =p

Dune series is always good, much much better than the two movies potrayal of them. As for God of small things, fell asleep hehe got a bit boring and draging even at the begining. Toilet reading well I'm for it can't do business without a book at hand :D

Dune is overrated.

He who says Dune is overrated shall be put to death.

Good book choices Saff. DUNE!

it's actually amazing how herbert, in his time, could write about cloning and selective breeding as though he'd lived it. i also agree with his conception that through our flesh alone we are able to remember all our past ancestry as how the gholas remember theirs. and this was before scientists had fully understood the nature of dnas. God bless you, Frank Herbert.

you're quite a few years late having picked up the book now saff, but you should also check out messiah, children of dune, and his epic finisher, emperor of dune. then you will appreciate his works even more. (You might even like the emperor because he agrees, women make better soldier)

and grats.. a post that actually drew me out of my lurkerdom to comment on:/

@james:
Yes, nothing like cool breeze on naked ass to enhance the reading experience. :D

@lance:
800x600 is okay la, dun go around confusing me. I spent 15 minutes trying to make it work, bleah.

@Resurrected:
I uploaded about 13 pics, but then found out that I did not have enough words to go with the pics, so had to pick the ones I liked the most. :)

Erm, I got an offline message from you a while ago, and I IMed you once but I think you were busy working. As far as chatting between us goes, I think that's about it. ;)

@Baine:
I like mindless. Mindless is good. Overworking the brain is generally not advised, heheh.

@SBL:
I think you might wanna give Meave Binchy and Arundhati Roy a wide berth, cos guys generally don't like those books. Try William Diehl's Hooligans, I think you'd like that one. :)

@Narrowband:
You have to open your mind to the experience. It's all about your state of mind. :) Naturally, you should flush after your business, unless you happen to be into all the weird shit porn stuff. :p

Double eew, eh? There's a reason why people generally don't try to out-disgust me. *grins*

@Kervin:
Yes, the telemovies were horrendous. Not only did they get the descriptions wrong, it's like the director decided to take a hiatus mid-movie and just let the actors muck it out whichever way they wanted. The only upside is the movies got more people to read the book, which is what I think all good movies-based-on-books should do.

GOST is considered chick lit, so I don't blame you. :) Kudos on the toilet reading, we need to spread the word. *grins*

@A.
I don't think grown men who have crushes on pixellated blond women mecha pilots have any right to criticise my choice of reading material, yes? ;)

@Banjo:
You know you're the one who started me on Dune. I should claim expenses incurred. :)

@Anonymous:
If Tolkien is the Grand-daddy of Fantasy, then Herbert must be the undisputed Grand-daddy of sci-fi. I like the way he builds up everything in one chapter and then delivers one simple sentence at the very end that manages to encapsulate everything. That's why I like the quote about Tleilaxu eyes, it's so poignant. And of course, it's about love and romance, and everyone knows I'm a sucker for those. *grins*

I own all Dune books up to Chapterhouse, and my favs are Dune, Messiah, Children and God Emperor. Heretics and Chapterhouse is too wide in scope for me to appreciate, and I was more interested in the Atreides, to be honest. :)

And I'm very flattered, though a bit worried as well. It scares me to know that there're lurkers around, heheh. Leave a name next time. I promise I won't voodoo you. :)

Saffron : no wonder. that wasn't you then. you see, I sent a msg to u, and a reply came from another nick which i've never heard of. and I happily yakked away thinking it was you. 'cross line' on YM?

Weird. Damn weird

After reading the last post, I was beginning to wonder, when you'll be posting again. Nice to know you're back :)

Dune haven't read yet [planning to read], Hitchhiker I've only finished the 1st episode, the rest I haven't heard of. Might not be reading that Arundhati Roy book coz, well I read it a bit, and it wasn't my cup of teh tarik.

Ps. I still don't know how people read in the toilet.

I once finished a book on the throne. they should come with a warning sometimes. "may be too comfortable for some" sounds adequate.

douglas adams! yeah baby. i laughed so hard.

Sorry saff, in dune, they spoke of desert power. on the net it's anonymous power. Leaving names is simply bad practice. Didn't the Tech Manual not say, "and the lurkers shall inherit the net?" - Firewall 3:11.

Good day to you.
