My Streamyx really conked. Called the helpline, did a whole shitload of pushing, plugging and restarting, filed a report and the guy said he would get back to us in 3 working days.
Obviously, I have my net back now. It's really handy to have an inside man in Streamyx. Foreigners who're thinking of moving to Malaysia can pick up a clue from this blogpost. Nothing ever gets done unless you're famous, you're a datuk, or you know someone inside.
Malaysia Boleh indeed, bleah.
To remove the distaste, I will blog about something nice. Just now while I was looking for pictures of Hugh Jackman, my brother walked over, stood behind and gave me a massage.
I love massages. *grins*
Of course, the reason for that massage may very well have been due to the fact that I wrote his entire ad copy (and it's a pretty good one, if I may say so myself) for him, and thus saved him a lot of work, but it's nice that he's so appreciative.
Ho ho.
Okay, now to balance things, my results are out. We can check them on the USM website, but it doesn't tell me anything apart from the fact that I've passed all my subjects. No grades, nada. *sigh*
The next few days are going to be very worrisome. I'll be greedy and say I hope I don't get any Cs, but I'm expecting at least 1. *sigh*

If there's one thing all Streamyx users need to know, it's that the so-called troubleshooting process that the helpline puts you through is UTTER BULLSHIT... I know, because they asked me to do stuff and I was like "What the... That's so wrong! It's a mistake to do that!"... But I had to do it anyway, just to satisfy them and get ahead to the point where I can force them to admit that it's THEIR FAULT and NOT MINE... But at what cost? I went from 600+kbps download/300+kbps upload (the main problem was instability) to guess what? Still just as unstable AND down to 200+kbps download/100+kbps upload... THAT is the result of their "troubleshooting"... It took me half an hour of fiddling around with my computer to set everything back in order and regaining most of the pre-TMNet-Helpline-Troubleshooting speed that I originally had... Worse still, I measure my line speed multiple times before I complain about it, using a RELIABLE metre... And they won't even believe me and ask me to use their JAVA-BASED line speed metre... That's so stupid... Anyone with knowledge knows that a Java applet is the wrong thing to use to measure line speed... You get screwy and inaccurate results... Why? Because Java itself is UNSTABLE! So nowadays, I call the helpline people, and tell them the problem, say that I've tested so and so, there's nothing wrong with my computer or connections, it's not my side, it's not my fault, IT'S YOUR DAMN FAULT SO PLEASE FIX IT... And then I kow tim it by making some remarks as if talking to myself silently about some of the silly things they do and how their troubleshooting method is faulty, and chuck in some tech jargon and mumbo jumbo that they won't understand... And WALLAH! They immediately get someone to check their connections and correct the problem... Without my having to go through their screwy "troubleshooting guidelines"... And problem gets solved... So I've found that with TMNet, the best formula is:
3 parts of human brains
1 part of confidence
2 parts of cocky attitude disguised beneath a layer of mock humility
5 parts of a tone of disbelief at utter stupidity
10 parts of persistence
27 parts of insistence
101 parts of unconceivably cryptic tech jargon
101 parts of tech mumbo jumbo
101 parts of baffling the "tech support" into silence
777 parts of making the other side feel that it's THEIR FAULT and that they need to somehow make up for their errors
The conclusion?
"TMNet" is an antonym of "morality"
I did notice that Streamyx is not much faster than the Jaring dial-up line.
You passed all your subjects, and you're asking for more?
Greedy.
Not to defend them or anything, but recently one of the underwater links to international gateways was severed/cut/damaged. This isn't really Streamyx's fault (for once).
This actually happened two-three weeks ago. What happened thereafter was Streamyx trying to feed all subscribers through one limited main pipe to international links, alternating with slower backups.
Not a technical expert and this is purely conspiracy theory but Saff's "insider" prolly arranged it so that she got on the limited pipe, shoving some poor fellow into the slower backup :/
Guilt trip ftw!
I heard it will be at least the 20th of April before the damaged cable is repaired.
Hmmm I tot I was reading Saffy's blog till I read the comments :P
So how long did it take to post the previous entry? Just curious at how bad it might have been.
Argh, not again? I feel your anguish and despair. :D
Why were you looking for Hugh Jackman's picture? Is his movie coming out soon?
@Seanna:
Funny how Screamyx and TMnet manages to get everyone fuming, eh? :)
@viewtru:
Mine's pretty normal, actually. At least it is now.
@Johann:
Yes, I'm not satisfied with a mere pass. :)
@A:
Guilt? I have no guilt!
Someone who knew someone probably bumped me off my line, and if I can't beat em I might as well join em. *grins*
@Footfoot:
What did you think you were reading after you read the comments?
@Tan Yee Wei:
About 15 minutes of constant clicking on the publish button. Sad, eh?
@IBlogMe:
More like just anger, actually. Heheh.
Hugh Jackman, yummy. I don't need a reason to go look at his picture. *grins*
